Help on another issue of uranium?
Uranium has 3 naturally occurring isotopes 238 U ^, 235 ^ ^ U and 234 U. Natural uranium consists of about 99,284% 238 ^ U, 0.711% 235 ^ U and only 0.0055% 234 ^ U. However, the fuel most reactors in the world is the solid uranium dioxide, UO2, in which the 235 ^ U content was increased to about 3%. This' enrichment process is carried with UF6 compound which is gaseous above 50oC. After the desired level of enrichment, UF6 is reacted with hydrogen and steam at about 450oC to yield enriched UO2 and hydrogen fluoride, which is released as gas. The equation below ia an unbalanced form the chemical equation for this reaction: UF6 + H2O + H2 + HF >>>>>> UO2 Write a balanced equation for the reaction using the lowest possible whole number of factors, including the state of each compound.
This is a reduction / oxidation issue, because changes of uranium oxidation state of -6 left at -4 on the right. The answer is: UF6 + 2H2O + H2 -> UO2 + 6HF is simply because the balances of all.
