Atheism and Environmentalism?

Are they not, even in some ways contradictory? One of the advantages of being an atheist is the knowledge that there is only one life to live, and after that … oblivion (or "Wormfood" as the least poetic we sing). This is all there is, then we'd better make the most of it. It is certainly my position. I also consider myself as an environmentalist … and recently I have been asking me why it is so carefully. In my life there is likely to be adversely the environment, but not as much as my next generation and the generation after that. However, it is natural for me to have these concerns. I guess a lot of pendants will say that all atheism is the absence of belief in God, neither more nor less. Anyway, what is your attitude towards Athiesm and Environmentalism?

Atheism and environmentalism must be accompanied in the hand … Would you really trash this planet and leave it like that for our children? There is no magical being who comes from heaven and all repair … we must take care of this planet or we have nothing.
