This leads to an interesting question about the word natural. On the labels of many foods, you will find an ingredient called "natural flavor". What exactly is a natural flavor? … The essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolyzate, distillate, or any other heat roasting, or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or juice fruit, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, to meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutrition. All other added flavor therefore is artificial. MSG is usually produced by fermentation, a process similar to that used in manufacture of beer, vinegar and yogurt. The process usually starts by fermenting corn, beet sugar or cane sugar. The finished product is a pure white crystal that dissolves easily and blends well in many foods. The MSG is "natural." About four years ago, the Japanese began to implement a process for the biocatalytic production of L-hydroxyproline and MSG. The compound, traditionally extracted from animal protein, is used in cosmetics or as chiral drug intermediate. Extraction of protein from animal may pose a health risk if the animals were suffering from insanity cow disease. Best known for its food additives, Kyowa Hakko AJINOMOTO cons of several types of products. The company isolated glutamic acid in 1908 and to this day she remains the company's best-known investment. AJINOMOTO is also one of the world's leading producers of lysine, with a global market share about 35%. In 2005 M'sia & S'pore bans MSG produced by a giant foreign investors in Indonesia after discovering The MSG was extracted from pigs. This is NOT a natural flavors in their scientific context.
